My 9yo DD is very into Alpines. She's decided that she wants to split some of her succulent type ones up and sell them. Also she has collected some seeds from some other types and wants to sow these, raise seedlings and sell them. Do we wait for spring before sowing them? If we sow them in March/April will they be big enough by June/july to sell. Or are we best of sowing now and overwintering them, will they last ok not in a greenhouse over winter - the seeds are from a Dianthus Flashing Red.
Also she bought a "famous" Alpine at the weekend. The alpine nursery that we got it from said they were the only palce in the UK that sells this type and that it is from a plant that won the Cheshire Show. I looked at the label when we got back and it just say "Blacky" on it. Is Blacky a well known Alpine? Does it have a different, proper name?
Thanks.
