Anyone had a DC doing maths / English resits? My DC bit despondent that they’ve really hard this week. So hard on them

I'm not sure I understand your post. What does this mean?

Surely the despondency over having to resit these GCSEs would have come when they got their results or started Sixth Form or College. What's happening with them this week that it's "really hard"?

I think @ifonlytheydlisten means that the resit exams are this week and next; the first maths exam was yesterday and their dc found it very hard? Is that right?

Sorry no help to offer but keep practising questions for tomorrow and Monday.

The second English exam is today so I hope it goes OK.

Good luck to your DC @ifonlytheydlisten
@clary is right, for maths practising past papers is key to success.

Did your DC have any tutoring in preparation for these resits? Or did they do some revision on their own in prep? I'm only familiar with teaching full year GCSE resit classes where the students get to fill in the gaps in their understanding of the subject over a decent period of time. What's at stake if they fail again?

I do think re sitting in November is harder than the following May/June. Have they had support to improve on their performance? Do they know where they lost marks before?

TeensNoMore · Yesterday 20:22

@SylvanMoon if they fail again they have to keep going and resit again in June.

If they pass they can drop the resit classes, hurray.

Is the November resit offered to everyone, or just those who missed out by a few marks or just anyone who can pay for it? Is there generally help/guidance/revision sessions for students who are going to sit it?

At college they will have been doing resit classes.
Colleges have different practices, some just put those who missed a pass by a few marks in for the Nov resits, others put none in and wait for June, others put more in.

Anyone can resit - you just pay the fee but have to solo study. DC that didn’t get a 4 get lessons in college but anyone just wanting to get better grade for eg a degree course later doesn’t

At the time as it was an unexpected near grade boundary miss, they said just do again in Nov. So DC did work / 3 tutor sessions but actually now thinks not enough (predicted was a 6/7)
