Anyone got a child on the opportunity Oxford programme?

Dd is on opportunity Oxford and is so over the moon to have her place confirmed this morning - doing Classics at Wadham.

I am so happy for her but Oxford is way out of my uni (polytechnic) experience, just wondered if any others on here whose child is also on oppox for general chat, mutual support, sharing of any tips etc.

She’s my eldest so also first time doing any of this! Excited but a bit anxious too…

Is this where they invite you to come along early and find your feet before starting properly? It's a brilliant opportunity for her. DD missed out on this as she started in 2020. One of her tutors said at her graduation that he regretted that they hadn't been able to offer it, as it strives to remove any imposter syndromes and helps them settle into academic life.

Please join the Oxbridge Current Students thread in Higher Education. It's been running for many, many years. I'm going to have to leave in the next few weeks as DD starts a proper job, but everyone is incredibly kind & helpful.

The convention is that everyone knows which subjects, but not the college, as there are so few numbers for some niche courses. Definitely some Classics posters there.

@Dearover Yes - her offer was conditional of getting the grades and attending opportunity Oxford programme - so that meant completing & submitting 7 tasks between end of a-levels and results day - and if successful a 2 week residential in September. It’s for kids whose schooling or background means they are not typical Oxford entrants and the aim is to support / familiarise etc prior to starting.

I am so pleased she’s on it, I think it has helped already. I hope your DD settled in and has enjoyed her time there.

Thank you for the tip about the oxbridge thread and the conventions. Will pop over there now!

DD qualified for UNIQ which gave her the confidence to apply. Your DD is going to have a wonderful time. Encourage her to go to Shepherd & Woodward or one of the other shops to get her sub function (gown, mortar board & ribbon) for matriculation with her new Opportunity Oxford friends. She will need a white shirt (just like a very neck school shirt, black skirt or trousers and black shoes as well. Google sub fusc!

Most of all, ask us anything and we'll translate gor you.
