2025 A Level Results Day and Sept Uni Starters - All Welcome

I couldn't see board specifically dedicated to results day for our DC who have sat A levels this spring. And I know some of us STILL have questions about Uni starters.

DS has Liverpool as his first choice and Notts Trent as his insurance - both to study History. Anyone who recognises me from previous boards might remember the hell we went through with DD a couple of years ago, so DS has applied quite a lot of caution to his choices - perhaps too much, perhaps not enough. Neither of us have any idea what to expect with his results. He has genuinely fluctuated between a D and an A in some of his mocks....

I still haven't done anything about accommodation which is one of the reasons I am starting this thread.

But mostly, it's for nail biting, relief, tears, support, advice and all the other things needed to get us through the next few weeks.

Welcome :)

Dd as predicted by her did not meet the grades for either of her choices with CCC and and a in epq. She missed lancaster by a grade. They have offered a foundation course which she's considering and I think maybe the right option for her. Just waiting to see if liverpool will offer . We have tried lancaster and they won't budge!

DS hated that paper too. He's a bit disappointed in his History mark having done pretty well at GCSE.

She had the same for GCSE but it was the Middle East paper. A, B, B in the other papers so she’s upset. She’s been offered Sociology at Warwick but sticking with Leeds as it was the course she really liked at Warwick.

Changed18 · 14/08/2025 11:12

I hope she gets the best choice for her @jamimmi. Frustrating to have missed out by a single grade.

Celebrating here !
DS has got his offer of engineering at Durham .
So delighted for him .
He has just gone off school to get his actual results
Has anyone got any insight into Durham student life ( he’s got a place at Stevenson college ) ?

I forgot to add congratulations to your son in my previous reply, you must be delighted and very proud! I hope he has a fabulous time there 😀

ChestnutGrove · 14/08/2025 11:16

Dd got into Sheffield with AAB which she's very happy about.

thank you for this thread, have been reading the posts the last few days and has really helped with the nerves! Congrats to all your young people who are in where they wanted and sending good wishes to those who aren’t yet on the next steps…

does anyone have any views on NTU and Sussex for law? DD missed her offer from Exeter unfortunately so is disappointed but it was always a stretch. They offered her a different course but miles away on their Cornwall campus instead.

She has clearing options from NTU and Sussex - loved NTU on open day but now wobbling about it, didn’t visit Sussex so can’t compare and don’t know much about it! Any thoughts gratefully received thanks

My DS went to NTU via clearing. Very supportive uni, and ranked high for law.

He graduated with a first and loved it so much he now lives there!

UnimaginableWindBird · 14/08/2025 11:17

DD didn't get the grade she was hoping for in history but has well above what is needed for her chosen course next year, so I'm very pleased for her.

Readandsew · 14/08/2025 11:17

DC always knew Durham was aspirational, and it was not to be. Insurance offer given despite missing grades here too. DC miffed with one grade in subject which had consistently been their highest, yet has now become their lowest. I am now panicking about accommodation as this now cannot be applied for/ secured for those with insurance/clearing places until part of their website goes live on Monday 18th!

BiggerBrighterBetter · 14/08/2025 11:20

DD's grades were a lot lower than predicted but luckily she still got offered her first choice of Plymouth. She can't help but be disappointed, but the outcome is the same so hopefully she'll be able to move on.

Congratulations to all our DCs for their hard work, whatever the result, and good luck all for their future journeys.

I wondered the same - DS's says it's confirmed and there's nothing else to do.

Sorry it's a bit fuzzy but this is the bottom half of the email from Durham admissions that DS received just after 8am. Are you sure your DC aren't looking at the UCAS email instead?
He's also had another email since confirming his acceptance

My DC met the grade offer and is off to their first choice Uni. We are beyond proud as they have worked so hard. For those whose DC didn’t do as well as expected I totally flunked my A levels only achieving 1 at grade E! I went to do a foundation year followed by a HND followed by a year top up into a BA Hons. It is absolutely not the end of the world and there will be ways to get to where you want to be.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! 🥳 You must all be so happy!!! I hope they have a fabulous time!!

And, well done on your E! I got all U’s first time round! 🙀Maths, Biology and Chemistry.. I had no idea! But, I picked myself up, went to the local college, did Law, English Lang, Lit and Sociology in some crash course only in three days a week, but managed to B/C’s and onto LLB. You are so right, for those DC who are distraught today, you may have to change your plans somewhat, or perhaps have to have an unscheduled year either travelling or working, but things truly will work out the way that they are meant to, in the end!

Well done you, too, for going on after your E to succeed!!
Hope you have a well deserved celebration!!!!! 🌟! ( and probably get first good nights sleep for a while!!) 😸

Trendyname · 14/08/2025 11:33

Op, how did your son do? Hope he got what he wanted.

Polkadottablecloth · 14/08/2025 11:34

Busy morning! Missed Durham, got insurance of Edinburgh but reconsidering that. Has clearing offers from Bristol and Manchester. Does anyone know if Manchester guarantees clearing accommodation? I’ve looked at too many websites to be sure! I know Bristol does.

SheSpeaks · 14/08/2025 11:36

There is so much relief on this thread! Well done to all the DCs no matter what the results are, it’s a real achievement no matter what.

I’m feeling really proud today because my DC who has had significant medical problems which we now know will be lifelong, and missed over 9 months of the a level teaching, has turned predicted grades of DDE into ABB.

We hadn’t even applied to any universities at all, because of the ongoing treatments and the poor predicted grades which obviously wouldn’t have gotten them in. We were preparing for resits. Now I am a bit at a loss on what to do!

tedgran · 14/08/2025 11:36

.DGD2, very dyslexic got ABB, a bit disappointed, however has got into Bristol to do philosophy and theology, having a gap year first, we’re all delighted

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 14/08/2025 10:31

@SheilaFentiman any news on Durham? My DD and BF both got into. Keeping everything crossed you have same happy news

DS got in, yay! But unfortunately not his GF so he’s sad for her and happy for himself.

JudgeJ · 14/08/2025 11:38

Changed18 · 14/08/2025 10:59

My understanding (from director of admissions at Manchester open day) is that if the offer is a legal contract and if you get the grades the university has to give you a place. Hopefully it’s just an admin thing.

Surely, if the grades generally for a subject are higher than they anticipated when making the offers then they may have to decline some at the 'lower' end, in the same way that if the grades are generally lower then they can drop what they ask for, as seems to be the case in many of these. The offers are a bit of a guessing game.

BrieAndChilli · 14/08/2025 11:41

DS got lower than hoped, had some issues this year and didn’t put in the work.
Thankfully he has still been accepted to his first choice of Exeter (cornwall) to do politics.

Sourisblanche · 14/08/2025 11:41

@AgentJohnson we are going to look round Delft with dd this autumn. Hope your dd passes the maths paper and has a great time there.

Pinepeak2434 · 14/08/2025 11:43

My son’s hub still hasn’t updated, apparently it’s a UCAS issue which we’ve had problems with since applying.

Noonehastheanswer · 14/08/2025 11:43

Letsgetthiswrongagain · 14/08/2025 10:17

DD got her second choice of Leeds, missed out on Warwick by 3 marks. She’s more upset by her History mark as she hated the Russia paper and that’s what let her down. Called Birmingham and got in through clearing but I think she’s settled on Leeds now.

Is it 3 marks or 3 grades? Has her teacher looked at her papers? Her teacher can review all the papers today (at no cost) and see if there are any marks missed or unexpectedly low - even on her higher scoring papers. I don’t think the mark schemes have been released to the teachers yet, but an experienced teacher will be able to give an opinion of whether a remark is worth it before you spend any £. If so, remark one paper at a time to find marks and ask Warwick to put her offer on hold. Obv leaves everything in limbo and she may just want to accept Leeds.

SheilaFentiman · 14/08/2025 11:45

Durham is (I believe) the only uni that wants firm applicants to specifically accept, rather than assuming acceptance, so don’t worry if other universities are different on the portal.

Sourisblanche · 14/08/2025 11:45

Other dd off to Exeter this year despite a slip on her IB maths paper, she’s still got a place. Now to sort accommodation.

congratulations to your DS! Shame his GF didn’t get in - so hard on them all this .

DD had similar last year, not at Lancaster though (although that was her 2nd choice, great Uni)
She accepted The Foundation and I just been talking to her about how this time last year she was devastated and thought her world had ended and look at her now - great friends, course she loves and just moved into a lovely house ready for her 1st year.
Best of luck to your DD and all the rest of them
