6th Form- Haberdasher Adams or Thomas Telford

My DS has just been accepted (pending results) into both the above. He’d like to study Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths.

Does anyone have a view on which would be best?

I’ve said the decision is completely his and I will stand by that, but he’s already asking my opinion and I’m not sure which way to point him.

He’s interested in doing a Degree Apprenticeship, so I think Adams would probably not be as happy as if he went to University, whereas TT have already said they encourage it.

Well, you need to talk to Haberdasher Adams to ask the same question you asked of Thomas Telford re degree apprenticeships.

Also, where do you live? Newport doesn't have good public transport links like Telford does. With possible out-of-hours activities, being dependent on school transport can be a bind.

I agree that where you live is important. I know of kids who have gone to both and their parents say that the teaching is good although I suspect that the students at Adams start the 6th form with higher grades than those at TT) but if you live in or near Newport IMO Adams is a no brainer.

There are regular buses from Newport down to Telford but I'm not sure how close to TT they actually go. A friend's child used to get the bus to Telford bus station and walk up on nice days.

I'm not sure that Adams would have a problem with a degree apprenticeship, they're like gold dust, I think they're more interested in the A level grades that students achieve (anyway, why do you have to tell them when you start, you can always say you changed your mind in year 13?).
