Help on A-level Maths and Btec National Extended Diploma in Sport

My DS has been given a space in a sixth form that he would like to attend. Because of not reaching a high grade in English, they have offered him only maths alevel and BTEC extended in sport which apparently is equal to 3 alevels.
so, as confirmed by the principal to me via email, he would take the equivalent of 4 alevels.

now, my ds cannot take a decision as he wanted to do three normal alevels (one of them PE) but no chance.
so I am looking for thoughts about this route. Ideally my son would like to go to uni to study math. Could it still be ossible?

If he does maths A level then he can study maths at uni. Is there any way he could take FM as well? That would give him a wider choice of higher-ranked unis. But it's certainly not impossible without FM, just he may need to check course requirements carefully, as well as typical A levels achieved (most courses do not require FM but a lot expect it and make offers to those taking it).

What grade did he achieve in maths and what in English? It's odd that they won't allow PE A level but will allow the L3 Btec which is usually a full post-16 offer.

What was he hoping to take with maths and PE? Are there any other possible post-16 destinations?

Thanks for your reply.
I don’t think this school will let him take FM as he has 7 in maths and they want 8 for FM.
ideally he wanted to do physics but unfortunately he got 7-6 but they wanted 7-7 to do any science (he is strong in physics but chemistry and bio paper 2 brought the grade down).
so he wanted to replace physics with either psychology or business study but they want 6!in English and he only has 5.
I know the grades are just average.
all school around us have more or less the same issue (we are in sutton so level quite high).

OK agree 7 in maths is not really enough for FM.

It's possible to extrapolate the physics element of double science I think to show what level he achieved there.

What else would they offer him alongside maths and then PE A level? Is something like environmental science?

No, they wouldn’t offer anything apart from maths and that btec. He tried to ask for physic showing how many marks he got but they said they will not accept any flexibility. They won’t offer anything as he would need 7-7 for all sciences, PE a level included (he has 6) and for the others like geography, psychology etc he needs 6 in english
