Does anyone know which texts they study in French? DD (incoming Y12, subject to GCSE results) is keen to start reading before term starts, but although we have the spec we don’t know which texts have been selected.

I don't know about that school but most schools do one book and one film (why would you do two books? you can;t do two films).

Do you know which board? AQA is the most likely tho there is not that much variance anyway. Your DD could usefully watch some of the films - might be useful in a general way or even give her ideas for her speaking project.

I recommend (films):
La Haine
Les 400 Coups
Au Revoir les enfants

Books:
L'etranger
Un Sac de Billes
Bonjour Tristesse

Edit: sorry that sounds as tho I suggest the school chooses from these! I mean ofc that these films are good and the books are not too long - and all are likely candidates tbh so worth your DD having a look

Thanks @clary. It’s AQA and I’m really grateful for those pointers. I am clearly showing my age as it was all about the texts, not films, back in my (ancient) day!

…by which I mean, we did watch and study French and German films, but I don’t think they were on the exam specs back then.

Dw I studied four books for each but wrote essays in English! All in TL now
