Can A level accounting be made interesting?

My son, 16, is in year 12 and among his A levels is accounting. He chose it because he thought it would be easy (ha!). He struggles with it because he's just finding it so dull. He says he just can't retain any detail because he finds it so boring.

Does anyone know of any resources or advice for making accounting, or similar subjects, more engaging? Or is it one of those subjects you either enjoy or you don't? If it helps, he also does maths and economics, which he enjoys. Thank you in advance 🙏

Has he read Freakonomics or listened to the Freakonomics podcast?

I've just mentioned it to him, and he hasn't. Thanks for the tip!

Can he try and get some work experience book keeping with an accountant. Doing a P&L and Balance Sheet from a pile of receipts really helps it be meaningful and make sense.

Forensic Accounting is an interesting thing too.

Thanks @RandomMess , somebody else suggested a practical activity/ work experience would make it seem more meaningful, that definitely helps.

Yes seeing T accounts in action which are the building blocks of accounts.

I still love a good reconciliation 😂

Ok - now I think I misread your post and was thinking about economics! But it's still a great book!
