Level2 apprenticeship, maths and English

If at 19 or so you do a level 2 apprenticeship do you have to do maths and English alongside if you don't have them at level 2 yet?

Supplementary question. Do you have to actually pass them to pass the apprenticeship?

Yes. If you haven’t got satisfactory GCSEs you will have to take a basic maths/English course.

To pass a level 2 apprenticeship, you have to have a level 1 pass (GCSE grade 1-3) in maths and English. Different rules for apprentices with EHCPs.

As part of the apprenticeship you have to upskill and sit level 2 in Maths and English - it's a requirement of the apprenticeship framework. I've had apprentices sit in level 2 maths and English exams and write nothing, that's fine they've sat it.

Thanks, very helpful. She has GCSE grade 3 in both. She also has an EHCP, so I'd be interested in what the different rules are for them.

(We are working on English right now. Know if she did an apprenticeship she will have to continue might give extra incentive)

You have to pass level 1 eng and maths (if you don’t have GCSE equivalent) and also attempt level 2 (but doesn’t matter if you don’t pass, you are showing you are working towards it)

With an EHCP likely to get an exemption and only need functional level 3 (below main level 1) in Maths and English.
If she has GCSE grade 3s, she only has to upskill and sit the exams, doesn't have to pass.
If she wants to go on to a NVQ or apprenticeship level 3 next, she would need level 2 maths and English passes
