Building or Quantity Surveying degree?

Anyone know whether it's better to do Building or Quantity Surveying degree? Coming from a point of ignorance here! Is it just a personal preference for Building (slightly more practical?) or Quantity (more office-based and financial?)

I know a lad doing a degree level Quantity Surveying apprenticeship.

wrt 'better' I suppose it depends what the young person is most interested in?

Quantity surveying is more business based and certainly financial. Building management always seems odd to me. DH is a chartered engineer. He’s not keen on seeing 21 year olds do building project management when they haven’t designed anything themselves. They don’t have the experience and contractors run rings round them re short cuts! I’d probably say QS is better. Look at Portsmouth’s degree.

My DS has just gone to Uni to start a QS degree and for the first year there are lots of joint modules so he can switch to Building Surveying if he decides he likes that better.
