Exams officers - special consideration

Thefatbutteredpig · 29/06/2023 21:30

Our school have applied for special consideration for dc following a stroke/ bleed on the brain of my dc father which happened at the end of April 2023.

Any ideas if this is likely to be accepted by the exam board?

thanks

Special consideration is capped at 5%, and I would think less than that would be granted.
The school exams officer obviously thinks an allowance will be made.
I only invigilate tho, so am not an authority.

Sorry to hear this.
Yes special consideration would be granted as long as there is documented evidence

Are the school considering DC as a young career? That may make a difference as opposed to just ‘had a negative event within the family’. It will be about proving how significant the impact was on the child’s ability to perform in the assessments.

Yes it should. I assumelife threatening if so 4% - have you sent all the medical documentation over

As long as the event was immediately before or during the exam period then you may get special consideration. From my experience (in our case the sudden and traumatic death of my DC father) I was told no special consideration as the event happened 3.5 months before their first exam despite my DC being unable to attend school up until exam period due to severe grief and trauma. I think the rule used to be six months after death of a parent but it’s changed recently. It sounds like you may fall within the new rules so I hope you manage to get it.

Just popping back to update - special consideration has been approved

@Thefatbutteredpigmay I ask how you found out the request has been granted? An application was made for my DC by their school too. Did they also say what percentage will be applied? (I’m not asking you to disclose the percentage though!)

Thefatbutteredpig · 03/08/2023 09:02

The school told us. They dont find out the % but can see the request has been approved

Many thanks! I will ask DC's school.

Glad you got it ! Still find it hard that my daughter didn’t but the rules are the rules.
