Hello all, apologies if there is already a thread but I can’t find one.
May had finally rolled around and the first exam is a mere 2 weeks away. Exam stress has hit our house! It’s feels like everything is about waiting at the moment - waiting for the predicted grades, waiting for the uni offers, waiting for the exams to start, and then the long wait for the results!
This is our youngest DD but the first one in further education so would love to chat to other parents going through this

DD said the poetry paper yesterday had gone better than anticipated. She thinks having done every past paper going she got into the heads of the exam setters so felt well prepared.

tribpot · 17/06/2023 11:09

Anyone else now left with just one exam to go? (Sorry for mentioning this when I know lots still have multiple papers next week). Just Biology paper 3 on Wednesday, so it feels a bit like the exams have already finished, and we're talking about what to do for ds' birthday on Thursday, and some trips we have planned for the week after.

This is GCSE presumably?

No it's the unseen English Lit.

Yes, PWP mine said the same, but the prose bit she said was tricky.

Tribot - Yes, we have only the Wed Biology to go too.

It feels weird for me this morning - almost as if we've been doing this for so long it is difficult to imagine anything else!

She has just announced she is meeting her boyfriend in neighbouring city day after exams (I've met him he is a lovely person) so that takes care of post exam celbration for now...

WednesdaysPlaits · 17/06/2023 11:42

You panicked me for a moment. That English lit must be something that only certain exam boards do. Ds finished English lit in 8th June.

okay sorry! If you are anything like me I live in constant fear of missing some appointment or other!

WarningToTheCurious · 17/06/2023 11:54

Oh, for fucks sake.

Our local community trust has decided TODAY is the day to run a music festival from midday to 10pm. Only notice given was an email yesterday lunchtime. They’ve been testing the sound system this morning and fuck me it’s turned up to 11. It’s in the park area that’s about 50m away from the house. It is SO LOUD already and it’s not even officially started.

DS has still got final papers for Comp Sci on Monday morning and maths on Tuesday afternoon to go.

I've had similar with everyone saying their DC have finished further maths - DS2 has one more FM paper to go, but I think it's just their exam board/a less popular module

L1ttledrummergirl · 17/06/2023 13:14

I'm feeling a little guilty here reading your posts this week. We booked a caravan by the sea and have spent most of the week on the beach unwinding. Dd is now starting to think about the future, and is making plans.

Ds1 was absolutely vile for one day this week, it then transpired that he was getting his results the following day for his finals. We've had a lovely couple of days celebrating his results, he just needs to empty his house at university now in readiness for his new job.

I hope all goes well next week for those with exams still to go.

blametheparents · 17/06/2023 13:46

DD said that Edexcel Politics (3A - US Politics) was good. She also said she’d been very lucky with the questions that were asked!!
Just maths (Tuesday) to go. Edexcel Stats and Mechanics. She’s feeling less stressed already, which is lovely.

Travelban · 17/06/2023 14:12

Dd1 still has 3 exams to go next week. 2 chemistry and 1 biology. She has gone to see a friend thus afternoon for a couple of hours after revising all morning. Probably going to work all day tomorrow, so good to have a break..

Sorry about that! DD sat Pearson, the exam yesterday was 9ET0 03. Three exams (Drama, Prose, Poetry) plus 20% coursework. Just taken the exam schedule off the fridge and added to DD’s pile of things she plans to ceremoniously burn.

Neversaygoodbye · 18/06/2023 07:45

@PettsWoodParadise DD thought the poetry questions were good but the unseen poems a bit tricky. She was pleased with how it went though. Hoping to study English Lit at Uni so hoping she gets the required grade.
I've also taken down the exam schedules (also had GCSE 's), that was a very nice feeling.

Forestfriendlygarden · 18/06/2023 08:47

Oh good. I will look forward to that on Wed.

tribpot · 18/06/2023 09:51

We've chucked all the Physics notes into the paper recycling at the tip today.

Hah! Ds1 is planning to do a Physics degree, but I suspect after Monday's exam his Computer Science notes will be in the recycling.

KittyMcKitty · 18/06/2023 17:20

I’m very impressed at the dc throwing things away! Neither dd (nor I - nor ds when he did A levels) are ones to tempt fate so things are getting moved into the spare room until after results day.

Chemistry P2 tomorrow afternoon - dd has done two timed past papers today which have gone v well (I think she must have done them all now) so keeping 🤞🏻crossed for tomorrow. Edexcel P1 played to DD’s strengths/ likes so hoping P2 does too!

Good luck to all those still with exams - dd still has 3 but most of her friends are doing Maths so have 4.

well done KK.

I'm still bleating on about waiting for rain...

Unbelievable weather forecast is threatening it again but sky doesn't come up with the goods..

one exam left here...Wednesday...

tribpot · 18/06/2023 18:11

We haven't chucked out anything but Physics, but that's because we've determined that even if he needed to resit it, it was so dreadful he won't do it but would rather take a different A-level instead.

mondaytosunday · 18/06/2023 19:34

Omg - my daughter has saved note books from primary school! She might feel differently about her A Level work though!
I said she should do something with the flash cards (over 700 on Irish History for starters), but she's being quite possessive.

WednesdaysPlaits · 18/06/2023 20:19

Ds has spent the afternoon tidying out his desk. Big pile of paper for recycling. He’s keeping nothing!

Guinefort · 18/06/2023 20:40

I had a productive day writing an official complaint to AQA regarding the absolute disgrace of their Physics A-level papers this year and threw in a complaint to Ofqual while I was at it 😂. I'm sure it won't do any good, but it made me feel a bit better to get it off my chest. I also complained to Ofqual that the link on the AQA website to their complaints form does not work. So essentially I've been complaining about complaining 😂😂

tribpot · 18/06/2023 20:52

Good for you, @Guinefort . I assume AQA don't give a rat's arse what anyone thinks of their exams but maybe we'll be surprised? Only one way to find out.
