Holidays on an apprenticeship

Dc1 is looking for apprenticeships for next year - at level 3 BTec level.

Do they follow college term times in terms of holidays? Is there any scope for holidays at any other time?

No they don’t follow term time, ds1 gets the same holiday entitlement as an employee which can be take at any time (subject to it being approved of course)

Mine had annual leave that they had to book like a full time employee.
They asked that they avoided times when in college but that was once a year so easy to do.
Essentially they were viewed as an employee.

Apprentices are employees so will get the usual 25 days a year holiday. They also get one day a week for training, and if that takes place at a college, the college would normally broadly follow school holidays.

*one day a week or equivalent!

As others have said our apprentices would be expected to book annual leave in the same way as everyone else (we have a compulsory 2 week Xmas shutdown plus bank holidays. We would not expect them to miss their college day either.

Not necessarily, it depends on the provider and how it is taught. There may be assessments and submission deadlines to work around.

They are full employees with the same rights and responsibilities, not like or viewed as.
Holidays are treated the same as any other employee.

As Pp have said it’s the same as other employees - but I wouldn’t book anything until they have their apprenticeship sorted because there may be times of year that employees at that firm aren’t allowed to take holiday.

We also found that DC wasn't able to take any school holidays off, as preference was given to senior employees, which made things very difficult for holidays if you have younger DC!
