I guess it depends.
Was the online assessment stuff you used to know but are just rusty on, or stuff that was way too hard?
Could you do a lower level access thing first?

If you say more people might be able to give you ideas. e.g. There are maths workbooks you could buy to work through if that is a sticking point.

That might depend on the level of failure, the impact of result, the amount of effort you put in.and level of support uohad alongside whether you want to continue.

I'd always say giving up should be a conscious decision and choice from a point of having choices rather than because somehing was a bit difficult.

Can you retake andvtry to get a better mark and do.you want to?

have you received your grades? or are you just feeling bad after doing the assessment?

a lot of these online assessments adjust the questions according to how well you do. So if you get Q1-5 correct, they give you harder questions for Q6-10, etc. In fact, if the questions become super-hard, that is a sign you are doing well and if they stay easy, you are probably getting them wrong.

So don't be discouraged, just wait for the grades to come back.

I'd struggle with basic English and maths too as it's such a long time ago, my kids remind me basics now of maths etc even junior school level and I've got a degree and PhD ... do it again after a swift refresher course and go do your course, don't let it hold you back!
Good luck!

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 03/11/2022 08:10

@Nomsa22 ahh I wouldn't worry if they were bksb, I've done them twice and it was explained to me both times that for people who haven't done English/maths in a long time they are hard as it's stuff very specific to GCSE's. I don't think I ever received my results but was able to do both courses even though the bksb felt disastrous so I wouldn't worry too much. Also don't let it put you off it's not a true reflection of what going back into education is like!
