Actually it looks like they are doing away with the lower fee for a single application:

"The application fee for 2023 entry is £22.50 for a single choice, or £27 for more than one choice.

For 2024 entry, the application fee is £27.50 for up to five choices (there is no single choice fee)."

Thanks everybody, really appreciate it. It’s irritating that they are giving out incorrect information!

DD passed her driving test earlier on - she’s the only one in the house who managed to do it first time 😃 given how much she struggled with it at first and her driving instructor having to stop instructing a few weeks ago I am even more impressed.

As she took it in our car, I had the stressful walking round near the test centre to do…

Now the wait continues for a Taylor Swift code…

Notagardener · 14/07/2023 16:19

DC still waiting to actually start lessons...All booked full

I think DS waited over a year. And then another 6 months for a test date.

@MirandaWest Failed to get a Taylor Swift code here; waiting to see if DD's friend had more luck

MirandaWest · 14/07/2023 16:35

DD has a code for Cardiff and her friend has one for Liverpool.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 14/07/2023 16:47

Well done to your DD @MirandaWest passing first time is brilliant! My DS is not interested in driving at all.

He finished yesterday so spent most of today on the computer (to be fair it has been tipping it down here!) I did ask him to make a list of the summer work he has been set and I think he did that, he also agreed that it might be good to get some of it out of the way next week before his sister finishes next Thursday so we shall see if that actually happens! (I've just been upstairs to check on him and he's now looking at a STEP past paper question so perhaps I shouldn't doubt him!)

He got his draft personal statement back with some positive comments but quite a bit of work to be done on it I think.

spacechimp79 · 14/07/2023 18:13

Congratulations to your DD @MirandaWest
My DS is hoping to start lessons in a few weeks. He has his theory test very soon.
I didn't get a code for TS but anyway resigned to not going after hearing that standing tickets are £170.

Silkierabbit · 14/07/2023 18:22

Congrats to your DD MirandaWest

Rollergirl11 · 14/07/2023 22:43

What an achievement to @MirandaWest DD passing first time! Are you insuring her on your car? DD is having lessons but still very far away from taking her test. Thankfully she’s passed the theory so that’s something at least.

Still one week left to go for us. Counting down the days!

DD finished yesterday as well. She seems to have a very busy summer planned.

legosunqueen · 15/07/2023 14:34

@MirandaWest that's great news...well done to your DD.

DS has only had two driving lessons so far but is enjoying learning. I'm not sure if he will get a car straight away on passing though due to the cost of insurance.

DS has work experience next week & many of the year 12 students will be on school trips abroad, so the end of year assembly was yesterday. I think it's fair to say that we were all a bit surprised when he was 1 of only 5 students in the year group who was given a Top Student of the Year award - please forgive the boast but, as some of you know, there have been some behavioural challenges this year that make this even more pleasing for DH & me & for DS himself of course 😀

Lightsabre · 15/07/2023 15:47

Congratulations to your ds @legosunqueen - nice to end the term on a high and will put him in good stead to knuckle down next year. Congratulations too to your dd @MirandaWest - that's an amazing achievement.

Ds easing into the hols here - doing some reading and a short course to bolster his PS. He's going to start preparing for the uni entrance test too. I'd like him to get a job ideally but he's not keen and we're going away mid August so it's going to be tricky to find something that'll fit around that time off. Trouble is, as he's not all that sociable and does a couple of sports that don't cost anything, he rarely asks for/needs money. That was always the motivating factor for me when I was his age.

Silkierabbit · 15/07/2023 22:16

Congratulations to your DS Lego

PaddingtonPaddington · 16/07/2023 06:28

Great news on the driving test @MirandaWest and top student award @legosunqueen

Lancaster open day yesterday and DS loved it. The physics department is fantastic and so were the talks and facilities. It’s now joint 1st with Warwick.

One more week of year 12 to go and should finally get year 12 exam results and report.

MirandaWest · 16/07/2023 08:35

DD volunteers at a local National Trust place and drove herself there yesterday - felt quite weird her going off on her own. The insurance is somewhat painful but is OK.

She has one week left of school - will be getting results from year 12 exams and then report on Thursday and breaking up on Friday. She and her friends are celebrating by going to see the Barbie Movie on Friday afternoon 😃

Rollergirl11 · 16/07/2023 08:56

Well done @legosunqueen DS. Great that the school have seen past the blip! 😀

@PaddingtonPaddington glad you enjoyed Lancaster. We are going to the open day in September. DD has high hopes as she loves the course they offer.

We still have until Friday before they finish. DD is awaiting feedback on first drafts of both EPQ and her PS. Hoping she’s going to get it soon so she can work on them over the holidays.

Congratulations to those young people who are already driving.

It's been a very full-on year, and Year 13 will only get more so! DD has tests the first and second week she's back at school, so it's not feeling as if the summer hols will be as relaxing as they deserve to be, particularly given the very full-on four-day, residential (twelve-hour study days) field trip she did less than a fortnight ago.

She has her summer mapped out with a fortnight in southern Spain with one of her besties and her family. Hoping that the heatwave will have faded away by then. Then a trip to Reading to see Billie Eilish. Also doing as many shifts as she can fit in for her part-time job to fund her expensive lifestyle.

She was lucky enough to get not one but two lots of tickets to see La Swift, in June and August. So over-the-moon about that.

She has Newcastle booked for a visit in the early autumn, not sure if she will visit any other universities. Possibly Sussex and Cardiff. But as she's planning on taking a gap year, it's not the end of the world if she doesn't do many really.

Happy summer holidays to everyone.

Only a few more posts left on this thread so I’m just gonna create a new one and link here. Hard to believe that we will be in Year 13 after the summer!
