Tax Credits and College

Hi

So I let Child Benefit know back in July that my 16 year old would be staying in education and attending college. I did this through my Government Gateway account and also posted back the letter I was sent out and ticked the box on there to infom Tax Credits also. I received a confirmation email stating my change had been received along with a reference code.

Having received my Tax Credit payment today and checking my Government Gateway account, I can see my son has been removed from my claim. It just says on there that they're working out my Tax Credits payments because of my child's education or training and it should be completed by the 7th September. Is this the way they normally do this? Or has there been a mix up and he's been removed? I just assumed that my payments would carry on as they were as he's going to college after the holidays.

Does anyone know whether I need to contact them or he'll appear on my claim again when college starts? I can't seem to find an email address for them online.

Thanks in advance for any advice 😊

Hi yes, its sorted now thankfully. I added him back on my Government Gateway account and called them also. By the next day he was showing on my claim again and my next payment was correct. My future payments were adjusted, so I'll get the missing money back, but unfortunately not as one payment, its been added to my payments and spread out up until the end of the tax year, if that makes sense. Do you have an online account to add him back on and let them know he's still in education? If not, give them a call....they actually dealt with it really quickly x
