Warwick Claycroft halls shared bathroom question

DS won't ask uni and can't seem to find this out anywhere else. How is the Claycroft halls bathroom shared? He's worried two rooms each have a door into the same ensuite bathroom. I'd have thought they be outside the room just with two people sharing it. Does anyone know please?

I don’t know but I’d think they would both have a door from their room into the en-suite with internal locks on each door. So you’d lock both doors while you were inside.

That's his worry. The other person forgetting to unlock his door so he can't get in, and then they go out! Unless it has a kind of central locking system which seems unlikely.

Just done a quick Google, the pictures show only one door to the bathroom.

Surely 'shared bathrooms' just means that it's like a normal house or flat - a number of bedrooms, plus a separate bathroom on the same floor? Nothing is "en suite". That's certainly how halls of residence always used to be.

If i have the right hall, this was a DD's favourite, mainly bc of the bathroom set up, when we looked round. She didn't go to Warwick but it was her top choice. The bathroom is separate from either bedroom - there is a little hallway with bedrooms and bathroom off it. Iirc that whole thing has a separate door. No danger of anyone coming in. It's nice bc you can leave your stuff in the bathroom.

clary · 16/08/2022 21:37

Not sure how well I explained that but basically there is a mini flat within the flat, two bedrooms and one bathroom, all with separate doors, then a door from that to the communal kitchen fir eight.

DS was in claycroft a few years ago.
The door from the corridor opens into a tiny hallway with three doors. Two are rooms and the third is the shared bathroom.

He loved it there. He "shared " with a fellow maths student and they papered the bathroom with mathematical formulas 🤣

"Jack n Jill bathroom" is what I think that style is called.
Looks like Beechfairy has been able to answer your question :)

Perfect, thank you. That's how I thought it would work, with an internal lobby area. The pictures do seem to show one door but they are not that clear and he got a bee in his bonnet about it being like a bathroom we had on holiday once. Not been on here for ages but I thought someone would have experience.

That's what it's called. Some things he'd seen and read made it sound like that but I couldn't see how that would work with students. They couldn't go inside on the open day.

BeechFairy and Clary, thank you for confirming.

It's a different world now! Loads of ensuite options and at some unis it's the majority. He's not too bothered if he ends up sharing with a few people, partly because they're cheaper but mainly because they'd get cleaned by someone else! He like the location of Claycroft.

Actually it's not like a jack and Jill bathroom.
In my experience J&J are like an ensuite with two doors, one to each bedroom.
The claycroft bathroom is separate.

Thank you, he had thought it was a Jack and Jill type, I just didn't know the name, but I get it has a separate little hall area with bedrooms and bathroom off it. Good to know your DS loved it 😃
