Health Visitor Course

I am a qualified nurse currently on maternity leave with my second child, I really really want to apply onto the Health Visitor course this year but just wondered if there is anyone out there with any advice or who has done the course?
I currently work on an adult cancer ward, does me not having any community experience out me at a disadvantage?
I have been doing copious amounts of research and homework into what a HV needs to know/do. I feel that having my own children now puts me in a good position but just wanted any advice or tips please 😊

I wouldn't use your experience as a parent as it's very subjective I would stick with transferable skills from nursing . Have you much experience in health promotion / preventative health advice and or safeguarding ? The majority of health visiting work is supporting vulnerable families and child protection . The traditional health visiting work such as weaning breast feeding etc is often now carried out by the support staff with the majority of families . Health visitors do most of the initial new birth and six week checks but then focus on the more in need families.
There is a shortage of health visitors so they are keen to recruit . Good luck

Thanks for your reply and your advice
I did not word it properly regarding me wanting to apply because I’m a mum lol
the hospital I currently work at and want to apply through is in an area of deprivation (high deprivation at that) so I do have experience in health inequalities & working with vulnerable people
my local areas HV team has been taken over privately by Virgin Care & the service is atrocious and we can’t get appointment to baby clinics for love nor money.
thanks again for your reply x
