Anyone about to start the rounds of university open days?

It has been a long time since I took my dad on a road trip round England looking at universities and I wanted to be a bit more helpful for my DS than my dad was for me (queue mortifying memories of the paternoster lift in Sheffield). So I found this online 'course' that sets out how the application process works and what to look out for at open days - I do feel more prepared and thought I would share it with the world of mumsnet www.futurelearn.com/courses/guide-to-university-entry
I actually love online courses on futurelearn (the uni of reading's one on Rome is great too)

Thanks. Also, UCAS have a guide, something I keep forgetting about.

DD has just started sixth form, so for 2023 entry when should we start going to open days? (Going for the January 2023 deadline). Given that on another thread the Year 13s are being expected to have their applications ready for the school or college to look at in the next few days(!), I'm thinking ahead as it will be here in no time.

I remember the paternoster well….terrifying thing…. First uni open day with DS1 next Weds. then we have a few through the autumn.
2022 intake.
My DS1 doesn’t have to submit his application yet @chubley it’s a bit early? Unless going for medicine/ dentistry/ vet or oxbridge.
There were no in person open days last year and DS1 procrastinated all summer so we are doing them now. he is doing Fine Art so having to look at Foundation (direct application) as well as UCSS

@chubley hopefully the full array of summer open days will be available to you next year. My DS attended some virtual open days in June and July but I didn't get much out of him... I am looking forward to actually going and being a very supportive parent Grin and I now have a list of questions to ask! UCAS application deadlines are later this time so we have time...

@ilovemoocs thanks for the course tip. Will take a look as DS is 2023 entry too.
I loved a futurelearn one on Rome too, was that the 3D representation of the archaeology one?

@CasparBloomberg yes that's the one. In fact I would also recommend looking to see if there are any MOOCS that link to your DS's uni subject for him to do - it's a great thing to add to a personal statement Wink.
