My DD is capable of achieving 3 good Alevels. She’s had a difficult time at her current school. I’ve tried to move her into private but it unaffordable. A friend who works in music suggested BIMMS Birmingham. Her passion is songwriting. It would be a longer commute, has anyone’s child done this course? I don’t want to mess up her Alevels if it’s crap. With an extended project, a distinction from BIMMS is 150 ucas points.

It’s basically equivalent to a Btec except it’s a different exam board, not Pearson. A few years ago there were some problems with Btec marking so some colleges switched.

My son is doing a Btec in Music Performance at a local FE college. It’s right fir him as he’s not academic and music is all he wants to do.

It will close options off, but if shes certain that she wants to study music BIMM is a known institution.

The songwriting diploma is actually just the Music Industry diploma but the students on that course will be choosing the composition based module options whereas students on the performance pathway will choose different modules.

It will be very different to A levels so I’d make absolutely sure she’s choosing the course for the course rather than to get away from her current school.

Another option could be BOA where you can do a music Btec alongside an A level.

Applications for Sept 2021 for BOA have passed.
