My daughter recently sat her Functional Skills Level 2 Maths . As her tutor thought her initial mark was so close (1 or 2 marks )to passing she asked for a remark . They found an extra 2 marks and she was told that she had passed . My daughter was ecstatic. To give a bit of a background she has had a very bad few years . She left her school when she was supposed to be doing her GCSE'S as certain people said and did things to her at school to the extent that she was frightened to attend. This wasn't dealt with properly by the school . So to get this result meant so much to her . Especially during these strange times . It was a moment of joy. She was getting her life back on track .
However weeks later just before her certificate was due to arrive her tutor contacted her to say that the examination board had now decided that she had failed . She was devastated to say the least .
They said that two clerical errors had been made . Once with the undermarking and secondly saying that she had passed . They apparently told the tutor that 'they would do better next time'
I wrote to them to complain basically they were not bothered and said it was up to the college to complain. Which they had but the Examination board told me they had no record of this . It is a complete farce really . Also to be told that all results are provisional until certificates are received. So all people jumping up and down with joy when they get their GCSE results in August better hold in their emotions in until they have the official bits of paper in their hands ?
I am so upset and annoyed for my daughter it all seems so cruel . She believed for weeks that she had passed and then due to their 'clerical ' error to be left devastated and depressed. Is this a common occurrence are they really that inept ?
