RSL/BTEC/UAL performing arts and future options

DC is considering BTEC, and RSL or a UAL in performing arts (dance).

But where can they go from here??
They are equivalent to a levels but do universities accept them or will they be restricted to vocational performance degrees only??
What if they want to do sociology at university after all?? Will this be an option??
Does anyone have experience?

Many universities will just ask for ucas points with no specific subject requirements, so those qualifications will allow them to progress onto university, and not just vocational courses. Or they could choose to go into work or a Level 3 apprenticeship or dance college.

I would imagine a great majority of sociology courses would still be open to them, although potentially not the highest tariff universities. Some universities won’t accept UALs, but lots do. What BTEC is she considering? If she’s thinking about sociology in uni, I’d try to do something that will have a fair amount of essay work to help prepare her.

So where does the UAL fit in? You can’t do that and 2 A Levels and a BTEC?

It was UAL or Btec/A levels or RSL
Different providers

A lot of colleges and certainly the vocational colleges are moving from Btec to UAL. I'd go for whichever one her favourite course provider offers.

My son is currently on a Btec in Music Performance. In terms of universities we have found a handful of the most academic ones that don't accept it (some will accept the smaller size qualification in conjunction with A levels or the larger sized one alongside A level music.)

For dance the 3 A level equivalent Btec/UAL will give access to a range of related courses such as dance, musical theatre, education etc. Some universities will also accept it for none related subjects but you will have to check.

If it's the 1/2 A level equivalent then most universities will accept it bar the very academic ones such as Oxbridge, Durham, Birmingham, Manchester etc.

I would agree with Pizza that if sociology degree is the desires outcome then an essay subject is fairly important.
