PGDE grant/loan

I'm looking to do my PGDE this year, which will mean leaving my current job in a school.

I can't work out if the assessment for loans/grants etc would be based on last year, or if I can apply based on what my income will be the year I'm at uni.

We will have DPs wage, but I will be earning zero. I'm in Scotland so uni fees would be paid. I currently get child tax credits, but they are due to drop to almost nothing in April.
Would they go up again once I'm a student/unemployed or would they stay based on the previous tax year?? I've only been earning just over £10,000 a year, and DP earns approx £26,000.

So much to figure out if we can afford it - every calculator I've tried seems to say slightly different.
