Only 2 hours and 10 minutes teaching a week for A level?

Just received revised timetable for my son starting 3 A levels at an FE college. For music and sociology A level there is only one taught lesson a week of 2hrs 10 mins and two lessons a week of same length for psychology. Plus what I think is a tutor group for 45 minutes. This seems very little to me. Is this standard for A levels now? Interested to know if this meets requirements/guidelines and what others are receiving? Thanks.

No that's not normal, my DD is doing psychology, sociology and RE and the minimum she has per subject is 4 1/2 hours per week. The most is 6 1/2 hours. I would query that as sounds very odd, even in Corona times.

Ds’ school has 6 periods per day. I reckon he has around 5 free/study periods per week & around 3 double classes in each subject.

We have 4.5 hours contact time a week for A levels.

I thought 12 hrs was classed as full time (which seems laughable to me), which with 3 a'levels is a min 4 hrs per subject.
Dc started yr 12 with 12hrs for 3 subjects + 1hr tutor + 1hr EPQ. Once further maths kicked in after the first term he went up to 16hrs for 4 subjects.
Just started yr 13 and he has 2 x 8 2hr sessions = 16hrs for 4 subjects, plus 1h tutor once a fortnight.

Other local 6th form is 4.5hrs per subject.

Many FE colleges are still on blended learning due to covid. It all depends on their available space.

Fortyfifty · 16/09/2020 19:56

My DD is year 13 and has blended learning at the moment in her college. Usually contact time is 5 hours per subject. At the moment some weeks are 2.5 hours in and 2. 5 hours online.

That does sound low.

My DD has 9 hrs over 2 weeks for each A level with 4 hours over 2 weeks for Core Maths (AS level).

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 18/09/2020 07:46

DD has 5 hours/week per subject. As she is doing 4 currently she has 20 taught hours face to face in college

Shadowboy · 18/09/2020 07:50

We have 4 hours and 20 min contact time per subject, and students are expected to replicate that during homework, on site supervised study periods etc

OverTheRainbow88 · 18/09/2020 08:03

We do 9 taught hours per subject over the 2 week timetable and then an hour they are timetabled into the lib array to do independent learning for each subject. Although at the moment half the lessons are taught online/home learning

Ds is now in year 13, in a normal pre-covid week, 5 hours per subject over the week plus 5 hours of "free periods", one tutor group session and an enrichment activity on Wednesday afternoons, anything from sport to knitting. No EPQ because he is doing 4 A levels.

In covid timetable, 1 subject per day so they don't move classrooms so that is still 5 hours on one subject in one day, today is maths.
