Moving area and son in year 12. Need help

I'm hoping this is the correct place to ask this.
We're moving areas in a few weeks and everything is organised with ds who's changing primary school but we're having huge problems with ds who's in college.
He's doing music tech and after trying every avenue we've realised he can't move mid course. We worked out our situation and he can still go to his college for the 3 days for this so that one us sorted.

We've now found out that he can't change mid course with gcse maths either. This is on days that he can't get to his college so he definitely has to leave that subject. This is a re-sit as he only just failed so this is compulsory. Does anyone know what we can do about this?

We've discussed getting a private tutor at home for a couple hours a week and then seeing if he can sit the exam at a local school in June; is this allowed does anyone know?

I'm pulling my hair out trying to sort this as I just didn't think it'd be a problem. Year 12 is nothing like primary school transfer

The issue is funding from what I gather. Students who havn;'t gopt a Grade 4 must study maths as part of their course or the college does not get funding for them.

I think you should check with the colleges etc. You might have to pay the exam fee, but i don't see why a college wouldn't let your son sit the exam there in that situation. Private schools do this a lot as a way of getting extra income. I'm a bit confused though - is your DS staying at the same college? Why can't he sit the maths GCSE there, even if he isn't attending the classes? Will they let him continue at the college if he's not following the maths course?
Also, have you looked at a more local FE college that might offer GCSE maths courses in the evenings, for example?

@Comefromaway is right, its a funding issue but there is a way round it if his current college are supportive - he remains on their books for maths GCSE, but he doesn't go to most of the lessons. So he studies at home, you get a tutor if you need to, and he goes in once a term to show his face and get any help he needs then he sits the exam with them. It can work, but its not generally encouraged.

Your best and easiest bet might be to ask the college he's currently at of he can be entered for the maths exam but just not go to the classes. Then get a private tutor at home to get him to the required level.
