What sort of bag for DD16 starting college?

I’ve been buying her black tote bags the last few years for comp as that’s what all the girls carry. DD has learning disability, doesn’t have an opinion but I like her to fit in with something that’s trendy but practical. Anyone have college age DDs who can give me some suggestions?

I think leather style backpacks are all the rage at the moment. I’ve seen loads in the shops.

But I think at college, everyone is stretching their wings a bit so I’m sure there will be a real mixture of styles.

Disclaimer: I went to college in 2000 and had a messenger style bag.

DD has bought a "leather" style laptop backpack from Typo. Not designer silly prices, but still good quality and functional, and looks nice.

It can accommodate her laptop, iPad, water bottle, pencil case, pukka pad, purse, phone, etc etc in it's many slots and holes. Might be quite heavy though Shock.

Vans backpack, canvas and sturdy (but kids round here cycle, so a backpack is more practical).
