DD was predicted level 4-6s but due to a horrible few months including being bullied and school based anxiety she is looking at 2-3s, possibly one 4 plus a btec level 2 pass or merit.

She has a place on a course based on her predicted which isn't going to happen. Will her level 2 btec count for anything or is she looking at starting a level 1 btec as her course will be in a different subject.

It isn't the same subject as her college Btec she has applied for but she is an army cadet and is wanting to do public services.

Thanks in advance as I'm lost!

I'm a FE lecturer and see this all the time. Firstly, neither you nor her need to worry as the college will absolutely have something for her.

What is she predicted in maths & English?

Welcometotherock · 09/04/2019 06:22

In her mocks she was 1 mark off a 4 in English Language.
Is totally failing English Literature (she has some SEN) and is looking at 2 to 3 in math.

If she gets a four in language she will not need to resit.

She may need to do a level 1 course but that is no bad thing. My nephew found his confidence through doing a level 1 course. Actually spending 3 ,terms succeeding set him up for the level 2 and 3 course.

If she can get a 4 in maths and English (ignore lit) then she won't need to resit and she can take a level 2 course, if she pulls it out the bag and gets 5 level 4's then she can go a level 3 course, if she needs to resit core subjects it's either a year of resits or a level 1 plus maths and English - that's how it works here. They sort it all out on results day but I recommend you are around in person because doing it on the phone is hard

Mummabear2212 · 09/04/2019 07:31

If she gets a 3 or 4 in eng language and maths then they will put her on level 2. It's only if there's lots of 1's and 2's that we'd offer level 1.

Welcometotherock · 09/04/2019 09:34

Thank you that's most helpful!

I presume she would have to pay for her level three in that case?

She would be 16 and 6 months when she started level one.
17 and six months for level 2
And 18 and 6 months for level 3 but that course is two years.

No, the level 3 will be free because she's starting it at under 19 and hasn't yet achieved a level 3.

I suggest you go along to enrolment with her as we do them very fast and they're always busy and she might not feel confident to ask questions or discuss the different levels.

Welcometotherock · 09/04/2019 09:47

Thank you Mumma that's most helpful.
Will definitely go with her.
I'm hoping she might pull it out of the bag at least with maths and English but it isn't looking hopeful at the moment :(

Even if she just passed English Lang and not Lit that's still a pass right?

Yes definitely. Without being flippant we don't care about the literature grade. If she gets a 3 or below she will resit either GCSE or functional skills and 4 or above then no resit. This applies for either/both maths and English. Good luck, tell her not to worry, that also applies to you and all will be fine Wine(always much easier when you're sat my side of the desk I accept)

Welcometotherock · 09/04/2019 11:39

Thanks everyone that's very reassuring!

Her Btec (I assume it’s a 1 gcse equivalent) should count as a pass.

What grades have been asked for? With mostly Grade 3’s (our local college asks for 4 Grade 3’s, she should get onto a Level 2 course

(I nearly tried for your username by the way but decided on this one!). I’m singing it in my head now!
