My dd needs to choose which uni she would like to attend this September. She has unconditional offers from two great Scottish unis already and 1 from a good English uni. All are well rated for her chosen subject, chemistry. The issue is whether to choose the English uni as that would require an extra £30k in loans as there would be no tuition fees is she went to a Scottish uni. It might seem like a no brainer but the loan scheme makes paying back a loan quite reasonable, the main issue is she really loves the idea of striking out on her own to a place she knows no one and is very different. A lot of her friends here will go the same Scottish unis as she could and she shies away from that safe choice. She is very outgoing and would thrive in any setting I think. I just don't know what advise. Her Scottish choices would mean moving to another city from ours, but it just doesn't excite her in the same way as striking out on her own down south. Is the extra debt worth it do you think? At her age the debt issue is kind of too far away to really understand. I worry she may regret taking on so much extra debt when she could get a good degree in Scotland without it ( I know that's a real lucky benefit for Scottish students).
