Excellent results 242 and Kick, what a nice way to end the term!
Sandy I'm also waiting with bated breath for the sequel to "Handmaiden's Tale'. I'm a huge Margaret Atwood fan - love everything she has written. I'm also looking forward to 'Transcription'

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 08/12/2018 11:50

No more news here on predictions. There’s a parents’ evening sometime next term so looking forward to that. DS3 is currently helping at the last maths master class session.

Completely changing the subject but my DS2 (the one with ASD) who is obsessed with quiz shows has successfully applied to be a contestant on Brain of Britain on Radio 4. Recording will be in April. He applied without telling me and passed a telephone audition! He’s so happy. Smile

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 08/12/2018 11:52

Sorry loose missed your post. Any clue what might be up with your DS’s vision?

eaglefly · 08/12/2018 11:59

Ellen that is wonderful news. Best of luck to your DS. You will have to tell us when it is on so we can support.

I bought the Oliphant book for SIL for Xmas but having second thoughts as she is not that much into reading - might end up subtlely in my pile from DH

KingscoteStaff · 08/12/2018 12:05

A quiet morning here with both DCs in mid essay - Napoleonic Wars due on Monday, Why is Cecil a Complete Tosser in Room with a View due in on Tuesday.

No Rugby as opposition’s fields are underwater!

LooseAtTheSeams · 08/12/2018 12:15

Ellen Brain of Britain is really tough - your DS must be fantastic at quizzes!
DS is probably just going long sighted in one eye but he's very aware the other eye is doing a lot of work. It was ok at Easter when he had his eyes tested so I suspect he just needs reading glasses.

Stickerrocks · 08/12/2018 12:39

Ellen as long as your D'S is referred to as Mr ThickerKnickers we'll know exactly who it is!

Wow Ellen how exciting! Will you let us know when it is on?

Oratory1 · 08/12/2018 13:15

That’s amazing Ellen and well fine all for great results too. Ds has done end of term rests too but, as before, we ll have to try and guess what us achievable post revision Hmm

Oratory1 · 08/12/2018 13:15

Well done not well fine !!

Oratory1 · 08/12/2018 13:16

Aargh tests not tests (tho probably had those too !!)

Oratory1 · 08/12/2018 13:16

Give up !

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 08/12/2018 13:23

Good night last night, Oratory? Wink

DS2 spends a lot of time ‘researching’ quiz topics when he could really do with doing his assignments. I’ll let you know when he’s on, I’ll be buzzing myself!

Oratory1 · 08/12/2018 13:57

Ha I wish ! Just fat fingers

sandybayley · 08/12/2018 14:00

Wow @EllenJanesthickerknickers - amazing. DS1's ambition is to be on University Challenge. DFIL was on the 'professionals' version of it and got to the final a few years ago. Brains obviously skipped a generation ;)

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 08/12/2018 14:06

I think DS2 would love to be on UC, but not being at university is a bit of a sticking point! Wink He and I am forced to watch it every week. Including the professionals ones. Good claim to fame for your FIL! Maybe Mastermind one day. Which I am also forced to watch.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 08/12/2018 14:15

I had my moment of fame shame on eggheads back when it was first on. We were like lambs to the slaughter Grin

sandybayley · 08/12/2018 14:19

@EllenJanesthickerknickers - DFIL got recognised in our local Oxfam. He is rather distinctive though.

DH is still disgruntled he didn't get into the UC team when we were at university- it was organised by the SU and not an 'open' competition. Still mutters about it whenever our Uni appears.

LooseAtTheSeams · 08/12/2018 14:28

I love the quiz programmes but 'Only Connect' is my favourite!

ShalomJackie · 08/12/2018 14:35

Not sure that either Hills Road or Peter Symonds need their profiles raising - they are both massively oversubscribed and have a fair amount of out of catchment applicants.

Stickerrocks · 08/12/2018 14:47

Quite relieved that Quins are playing in Italy today as there is nothing worse than what thing rugby in sticky drizzle Kingscote. Two essays in 2 days is a challenge.

Ha @Stickerrocks you're not wrong. My washing machine is chugging through two lots of dirty rugby kit. Disappointment for DS1 but a win and 'man of the match' for DS2. DS2 has celebrated by going to the rip off that is 'Winter Wonderland' in Hyde Park.

KingscoteStaff · 08/12/2018 15:17

3 soaks in Napisan finally got the Berkhamsted mud off DS’s shirt!

Very happy that napisan had originally been autocorrected to Maoism.

Stickerrocks · 08/12/2018 15:54

DD asked if we could go to Hyde Park on Thursday evening. In the classic MN vein, "No" is a complete sentence!

Ahhhhh .. some Christmas spirit! One carol concert down, 2 more next week. DS1's piano trio played Mendelssohn - acoustics were great in the church - a proud mummy moment. He also sang in the chamber choir. Much needed restorative for me after his diva tantrum this morning with concert outfit and music folder flying across the room. Strop brought on by having to go to his part-time job today. Angry

How is everyone's weekend going?
