Dd didn't get the grades - What next

Dd missed her degree course offer by one grade but she doesn't want to repeat the A level that she didn't do well in.

She wants to study English and History but she has Aspergers and dyslexia.

I am wondering if there are one year courses where she could pick up some UCAS points. She only needs eight more.

Has she looked at clearing, to see if there are other courses she might still be able to go to, perhaps at same University or maybe at a different one ?
I presume she has spoken to her original offer? -some do still accept a grade lower than original offer, depending on lots of things.

Stressedoverkids · 17/08/2018 18:21

Yes she could get in on clearing but it would mean her moving out of home and although she has done brilliantly she isn't quite ready for independent living.

An extra year would be no harm but it's what to do with that year is difficult.

Her University are still considering her but really we need an answer and not likely to get it now before Monday. Hmm

does her university have a foundation year?

smerlin · 17/08/2018 19:13

Might be a good sign if still considering- all our rejections were loaded on straightaway. Have you called them?

Stressedoverkids · 17/08/2018 21:59

It is a foundation course and part time too. The University are looking into if they can make any allowances for her but unofficially have said it's very, very unlikely.

This course is perfect for her.

What else could she do to get UCAS points?

Have you made sure they have counted any points she has from music exams, dancing qualifications, other hobbies etc. There is a list in the UCAS website that tells you what you can score points for.

Hi has any one received remarks back from AQA for A level Biology and Chemistry.

How about one of the business BTECs? Might be both interesting and helpful for future employment. Or an IT course?

Just in case anybody remembers this thread. They eventually accepted her under special circumstances and she started this morning. Smile

Good news! I hope it all goes well for her.

Fantastic update! Smile (I have 3 on the spectrum so it’s heartening to hear the uni gave her circumstances special consideration)

Great news, best of luck to her
