Psychology or Sociology A-Level for interior design career

Does anyone have any advice or guidance on whether psychology or sociology A-Level would be more useful when considering a career in interior design? Other A-Level choices will be Art and History (modern).

Would psychology be a better choice as it could prove useful when designing interiors for homes/businesses?

Don't think either would have much bearing tbh. With creative courses a good relevant portfolio would have more influence. Go with the stronger interest in the subject and course.

I don't think either would be more relevant towards interior design. At a push I'd say psychology.

Both and neither. Whichever one your teen prefers. It won't make a difference in the end.

Ask yourself if you were hiring an interior designer would you prefer if they had a sociology or psychology A level. You wouldn't ask?

Well, I think psychology might be more relevant in terms of designing internal environments that make people happy, or relaxed, or more productive etc.

Tbh it's not very relevant (and I really really doubt anybody will care in future) but it could perhaps be spun as relevant on an application for a degree or entry level job so it might help with getting a start.

Ps the only interior designer I know has a chemistry degree so don't worry too much....

DD is doing Product Design GCSE but would like to keep her A-Level choices broad so as to keep her future options wide.

That sounds sensible.

Psychology has a lot of maths in it (statistical analysis etc) and is very much more like a Science whereas Sociology s more akin to eg History in analysing evidence etc so that may colour the choice.

Art is best and no-one in interior design will bother much about the others. Some form of design A level or photography because it helps organise thoughts and is useful regarding a portfolio. Maths is useful because measurements and scale need to be accurate.

If she wants to keep options open, then another facilitating subject might be better. What might other options be regarding a course? My friends DD did a Private course in London for Interor Design and is now working for a major interior designer. Expensive course though!
