IGCSE English Lang Grade C - is it good enough?

DSS 16 moved in with us recently to attend college in our area. He has enrolled in a plumbing course and has been told he must resit GCSE Maths and English as he didn't quite get the results in his GCSEs this summer. However he did sit an IGCSE in English Language in year 9, where he achieved a Grade C. We took the certificate into the college and they didn't seem to know whether it was acceptable (I.e. He wouldn't need to resit).

Surely the IGCSE should be an adequate result, otherwise why do it? He really doesn't want to resit as he has been offered more hours at his part time job. Can anyone shed any light?

International GCSEs are taken in many private schools, so I can't see why it wouldn't count

I'd turn it the other way and send them a copy of the certificate under a letter that says he has the C grade already from an earlier exam blah bla there obviously seems to have been some confusion blah blah so he'll only be needing to resit maths. Let them show you the proof that it is unacceptable rather than you having to prove that it is acceptable.

It should be as long as it was the full igcse English Language level 2.

IGCSE is just as valid as GCSE.
Dd is at an independent school and will be doing IGCSE in maths and science this summer, rest are GCSE. No difference regarding their validity.

Only issue is if they ask for it to have been sat at a certain time but it's unlikely unless a long time ago perhaps.

Its a funding issue. To get funding the students who don't have GCSE 4-9 or A*- C or equivalent have to resit. I expect they think because iGCSE doesn't count for league table purposes it doesn't count for this either, but afaik it does.
