University applicants from Steiner schools

If a student has attended a Steiner school (or any other whose pupils don't take GCSEs) does this put them at a significant disadvantage when applying to university?

I assumed it would but at least one school website suggests otherwise.

I just told you, that is what happened to my friend's children. That is a fact.

No, that is anecdote.

LisbethSalandersLaptop · 13/10/2015 11:26

lol OK a factual anecdote Grin

Aelfwynn · 13/10/2015 11:27

I don't believe a word of it, frankly.

LisbethSalandersLaptop · 13/10/2015 11:28

whatever, you don't have to, I know that it happened.

I have close relatives who went to a Steiner school, and also had a university classmate who went there.

They were all quite dismissive of the education they received there and felt it prepared them poorly for further education and life outside the Steiner community.

On the other hand, my relative who has a very significant disability thrived at his Steiner school.

whatever, you don't have to, I know that it happened.

Bullying being allowed to continue because it was punishment for sins in a past life. Hmm

A link to a notorious anti Waldorf US website. I'd rather not read that sort of thing thank you

LisbethSalandersLaptop · 13/10/2015 11:43

lol oh oh I don't want to read anything that quotes Steiner!!

Aelfwynn · 13/10/2015 11:52

lol?

I see why you've posted such such improbable things about Steiner schools on the thread (bullying punishment for past lives, exclusion on SEN and ethnicity) if this is where you did your 'research'. These US sites are all alike, with wild claims and conspiracy theories. Some are also rather sinister and will target those in the Waldorf community. Not pleasant at all.

Yes, I'm sure there are quotes from Steiner. This is what Steiner education is based on after all. Obviously, as he died almost a century ago, a lot of his comments are outmoded and unacceptable in a modern Steiner setting in the UK.

Hmm

The Aberdeen Waldorf kindergarten received a damning report from the Care Inspectorate, and the school has closed "due to financial reasons". Anecdotally, bullying was a major problem at the school.

The only children I know who have attended Steiner schools have had significant SEN, so it is certainly not true either that they don't take children with SEN, or that they only take white children.

It is also true that these children learnt nothing there. But it was partly for that reason the school was chosen, so the children were not put under pressure to perform academically.

As adults these children have no qualifications what so ever, nothing at all. They can't read. They can do manual labour at most, but there is a HUGE amount of competition for jobs that don't require reading! as much as there is for jobs that require first class degrees!

Maybe they wouldn't have got any qualifications from mainstream schools either, who knows. it is certainly true that they enjoyed their school days and were not under any pressure.
