what grades did uni's actually accept last year?

Looking at a range of unis. Entry requirements seem very high. Was told last year many unis actually took students on quite a bit lower than was originally offered. What have you heard?

Particularly interested in Engineering courses.

Southampton was asking A* AA and i think went to AAB for clearing in engineering
Manchester physics asked A A A for physics. DS friend got A* AAA and after a few hours wait was accepted.

This will depend upon the University and whether it is MEng or BEng.The most prestigious MEng courses will probably not need to drop that much, especially if they recruit a lot from the Far East. BEng at a former Poly will be less demanding and they are likely to be more flexible, especially if they went into clearing. Do not expect much flexibility from places like Imperial! What sort of Engineering and where are you looking? Have you beento any Open Days or subject days?

Entry requirements for BEng courses are generally lower than MENg but some Unis will let students switch to the MEng from the BEng after end of Yr1 if they are doing well with their grades - so that is another way of getting in to the higher level course.
Ex Polys obviously require much lower grades but do have a good look around them at Open Days as they seemed very variable.
Belfast Uni is worth a look as it is RG and generally offers lower entry requirements than mainland Unis. They also have incentives for students who get BBB and above by way of free flights/upgrade on accomodation/cash/ gym membership and many other things in a package.
DS has been to look around the Engineering Dept at Belfast and was impressed. He is not put off by the travelling as it would be quicker to get to than Southampton!

Liverpool were asking AAA a couple of years back and admitted on ABB (for MEng). All depends on numbers.
