Access to HE using moodle, wtf?

Can anyone help? I am supporting ds (disabled student) on his Access course. We have lots of assignments to work on over the break. DS has zero common sense, DS has zero logic, DS has zero study skills. This is the first time he has done any real true independent study. I should say he is very good at his chosen subjects. So I act as his PA and time organiser.
Half a term in and he has no idea of how to actually submit his assignments. His college uses moodle. I've never come across it, probably cos I'm old.
For each assignment he has a sheet detailing the work required, giving the learning objectives and assessment criteria.
He is preparing the assignments in Word/PowerPoint. Has emailed one to a lecturer for some comments, was this ok, or should it have gone through the moodle.
When he has a finished version of each, what does he do then?
The ALS department at his college seem to have taken a group holiday, I can't get any response from them. We're stuck. Are you feeling the desperation!

Is he your son (DS) or simply a Disabled Student you support?

Either way, saying "DS has zero common sense, DS has zero logic, DS has zero study skills." is a horrible way to describe another adult.

Its half term in a lot of places so they may well all be on holiday.

Moodle is just basically a place where you can download resources. A bit like a dedicated section of the library just for that course, except it's online rather than physical.

They can upload stuff to moodle but I shouldn't think it will matter if he's emailed it, they'll let him know if he should have put it on moodle.

The only thing would be if he's working in a group, it's sort of a place you can share work too, like if he went to that virtual library and left a photocopy of his work so that the other group members can access it. But if it's stuff he's supposed to do alone, then emailing the course leader is fine, they will direct it to the appropriate place and if necessary go over the moodle upload system with him.

Lougle he is my son and he would be the first to say those things about himself. Ask him anything about the Golgi apparatus and what the thing does and you could listen to him for hours as I have just had to. Ask him when his assignments are due and...tumbleweed. It's all about the science.
Sorry you think it's horrible to talk about someone in those terms but if you've ever lived with a mad professor type you might understand the frustration of living with a brilliant scientific mind who cannot deal with the minutiae and mechanisms of showing the world his brilliant scientific mind.
This Access course is the only way which he can move onto a career in his chosen niche of science. Everywhere else refused him saying they could not support his degree of physical disability on the course/too many health and safety implications/why, one place even refused him because he couldn't pick up a guinea pig with two hands. No WAY is he failing this course because he forgets stuff or is so engrossed in the science that he doesn't hear stuff. He can fail on the science if he has to fail.

Just shit scared that this Is not going to work out for him. Struggled a long time to allow him to do what he wants to do. Feeling tearful and super sensitive.

DD3 used moodle when she was at college, Tutors would put the assignments up on there (as well as telling the students. about the assignments), Then when she had finished a section or the whole assignment she would upload it to moodle. Each student had their personal slot to do this, This was good for her as she is Dyspraxic and has other learning difficulties which means she is disorganised. It meant she was always able to check what she had to do. She did also sometimes email her tutor. She is now at uni doing a computer degree and they have a simular system there.

We have a Moodle system at the HE institution that I work in. It´s actually pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it and just needs you to go on the platform and click around it to get familiar with it.
Having said that, if you are required to upload an assignment by a certain deadline, make sure that you make the deadline as it may automatically ´fail´you if you miss it (this isn´t always the case, as it can be programmed to allow some leeway for submissions).
Some student still send work through to their tutors. I think that´s fine the first time, but we then encourage the student to use the Moodle system subsequently with some support from staff.
