daughter not yet got her degree results ? Is this normal or an I missing something ?

DD has completed a degree in science with qts .
Not yet passed her qts as still to pass the maths skills test but the school she is working for is aware of that and giving her some tuition ( she already has a job teaching and loves it )
She has told us she didn't want to graduate without her qts so will graduate in December instead.
It keep asking her if she has her degree result for science yet and keep getting a stand off I'll TELL you when I do ! ( I've only asked her twice tbh ).
Unfortunately our eldest dd has always had a huge problem with telling the truth which is difficult for us because I certainly am the opposite and can't ever see the point but she will always tell lies .
in year 2 she swore blind none of her exam dates wee given out until middle august for the end of August and we bloody know they were resists but she denied it and still does . it's hard because lies are always worse than the truth and I'm sure she's doing her best whatever the outcome .
I just have a bad feeling she is lying to us again and actually might not have this degree yet ?? can that happen ? Would she know if she had failed by now ??

I'm amazed she can get a science degree or even start on without a level of Maths acceptable for QTS. Could she be retaking ?

So she finished before the summer? Surely she would have already graduated in that case? I think she's lying to you

We'll dd always struggled with maths but was committed to being a teacher.
She retook her gcse 3 times and passed with a c grade the same week to also passed the university equivalency test !
QTS now has to be passed PRIOR to commencing teacher training which is better .
Unfortunately that leaves hundreds of students who will have completed their degree and then fail the maths test .
I'm sure she will pass it this time and it will make her a better teacher .
She loves teaching the little ones maths and got her best assessment grades doing this .
The actual test she has to take is something like 60 questions with 5 seconds to answer and she is slower than needed .
She's told us about this tho.
It's her actual degree I'm worried about .
I mean why hasn't she got her actual science degree result yet ??
This skills test is nothing to do with her science degree it's entirely separate and only required for qualified teacher status .

I know it's a mortal sin on here but why not ring ask in general terms what the graduation / results dates are?

Can you phone uni? They won't give you personal info but might tell you general policy as to whether they announce results of degree prior to QTS being achieved.
I'm pretty sure she would know results of degree by now: people w hi o did resits already have their results.
The QTS thing doesn't make sense to me. I understood that under current rules you have to pass skills tests before commencing course. Also, how is a science undergrad not able to pass maths skills test easily? Having sat it myself, it is all the type of question you'd find on SATs tests aimed at 11 year olds. What extra tuition is she getting? And how is she teaching without having either a degree or QTS?
Sorry, it doesn't add up.

I have to say, OP, I am amazed your daughter has been able to do a science degree with a C grade at Maths GCSE. My understanding is that even doing a science subject at A level is tough if you struggle with maths. It does all sound a bit fishy to me. If she was doing re-takes last year she will have had a tough final year.

Which uni is it? If it's Canterbury for example - Christchurch or kent then they are out. Sorry

She's not telling you the truth.

She'd know her results by now. Students usually find out their first sit results in June (with graduation ceremonies in July). That's when final year students would be finding out how they've done.

August exams would be resits. She would still know how she'd done by now. Universities are gearing up for (or may have already started) the new semester. Resit results are finalised (and communicated to students) before that because they need to know whether they can progress on to the next year of a programme.

Final year UG students with resits (who are unusual, as most programmes don't allow more than one attempt in final year modules without exceptional circumstances, although exceptions are sometime made for professional qualifications so a programme with QTS may qualify) would have to graduate in November/December (or later, depending on when the university holds their winter ceremonies). They don't have results in the summer so cannot graduate.

You can check her university regulations and timescales online. It'll be called something dull like 'degree programme regulations' or similar (different universities have difference acronyms for them).

She would know if she had failed.

Go tot he university website and type in 'graduation', you will find out the date she would have graduated. Local papers also sometimes publish the results.

I did an access course on college when I was 17, didn't finish but sat most of the modules, paper didn't arrive and I didn't chase it thinking I must have got nothing from it, it arrived 2 years later, so it is possible.

It does sound like she isn't telling the truth though.

I would be surprised if she didn't have her results by now. And it is very unusual for final year students to be allowed to do resits, it's normally a case of having to redo the year. So she'd likely have done the exams in June time, which makes it a long time to have not had her results.

yes she should have her science degree separate to QTS.
I wonder if she has coursework outstanding possibly ?

I'd graduated by now (Plymouth uni). We got our results around June/July I think.

I suspect she does know her results; she just knows you won't be impressed. It may be that she has to repeat the year, or that her results are bad.

Even if she has coursework outstanding, she'd know her results. If you don't hand it in, you get a 0 mark for that part of the module. The exam boards will already have verified that and made some sort of decision. That might be a poor result in the degree, or the need to resit the year, or something else, but there will be a decision. We have to deal with all students registered on a module/programme at the exam board. Sometimes an odd student or two will need to be dealt with by chair's action afterwards, but universities try to avoid that wherever possible. It would certainly have been dealt with by now, as there will have been another exam board since June and 'oh that's still hanging around totally unresolved' is not something that would go down well.

And she would almost certainly be able to check her results/status on the university's online system even if the letter got 'lost in the post'.

The absolute latest any of my friends got their degree results was July. Your DD sounds a bit like my brother, he had actually dropped out and not taken his exams but didn't dare tell my parents. He eventually left a letter from the university confirming his course was terminated on the table for my dad to find about 6 months later! Hopefully there has been a misunderstanding but id sit down and have a word with her if I were you.

She may have to resit one if the modules.

Tbh there's not a lot you can do about it. She is an adult, and if she chooses not to tell you, there is little you can do about it.

Her decision, her choices. Think you just need to back off, but make it clear you love and support her no matter what. She may well feel as though she has let you down in some way, which is why she is reluctant to be forthcoming.

But can you resit a module in yr 3 .
I wonder if the school she is actually teaching at are aware she hasn't got her degree yet ?
It am feeling that she has to submit something still . I seem to remember something going on about some coursework not submitted on time .
I have asked her twice.
her choices I know I just hate the thought of her worrying on her own because whatever she's done or not done we are always here for her but she has always lied to us about so many things .

Are you sure she's teaching at the school? Could she have failed a placement and be redoing it?

Sounds really fishy. Are you sure she has a teaching job? Can you check on school website etc? She may be so far backed into a hole she can't see the way out.

I have a friend who was so scared of telling his family that he failed his second year that he faked the final two, didn't invite them to graduation but turned up in gowns to "see his friends" and got pictures that way, and took three years after to come clean - when they wanted his graduation certificate for something or other, and he couldn't find one online good enough to edit.

He'd just lied himself into a corner, and couldn't admit the failure to himself or them. He just couldn't make it "real" by telling other people.

As has been said, results are out in June/early July. She will know by now, even if she needs to resit - she'll have been told so that she can be ready for the new semester, which has just started.

I hope, if she is lying, you can find a way to support her. It must be hellish.

Not necessarily. Depending on how her degree is structured, she may not be taken to a board until she is ready for the QTS element, as they may both need to be conferred together.

You can try looking at the university website and regulations, but ultimately your daughter is an adult and if she doesn't want to tell you, she doesn't have to.
