University of People degree - is it recognised in the UK?

As title says really, does anyone know if the degree is recognised in the UK? With time/money restraints this would be a great opportunity for me but don't want to waste time and money if it isn't recognised over here as an actual degree.

never heard of it. How many years would you have to attend and study?

Is it an American or other overseas "University" where the main qualification criterion for receiving a degree is that you have paid for it?

Why don't you try the OU?

I'd never heard of them. From the website it just looks like you would be doing online courses (so-called MOOCs). What would a degree entail? Lots of modules from various bodies? And which institution would award the degree? It's this which would matter to employers, I think.

If you are just doing this out of interest I'm sure it would be good. There are also lots of UK providers of MOOCs: check out FutureLearn. If you 're after a qualification which employers are likely to recognise, you might be better with a more traditional uk provider. Some of their distance learning degrees aren't too pricey.

So it depends on your reasons for studying, really. Why did you choose this particular institution?

I don't know but it looks bloody amazing! It's partnered with NYU and Yale which is rather respectable.

I was interested in it mainly as I really want to study for a degree but with working full time and other commitments, it would need to be through distance learning and the cost of the degree with University of People would come to around £2000 compared to studying through a UK based course which would be much more expensive.

The course is Bachelor of Science Business Administration but obviously no point doing it if it isn't recognised over here in the UK.

If you ended up with a Bachelor of Science Administration awarded by Yale or NYU that would be brilliant, and definitely recognised. But you would need to check.

Also, in the uk, if you don't have a degree already, you can usually get a student loan for the fees for a part time distance learning course, so you don't need to pay them up front.

I really hope it turns out that it is recognised as it would suit me perfectly. I'd emailed them to double check but haven't heard anything yet and wanted to see if anyone else knew anything about it.

Accredited by Distance Education and Training Council They seem respectable and have been around a very long time but I'm not sure they're well known.
