Anyone's children move a long way away at (just) 16?

DD is looking at post-16 options. What she'd really like to do is go to some specific colleges, all of which are a really long way away from us. (It's not because they are a long way away from us...) She's convinced she's ready to be away from home. But she loses her temper whenever I bring up the fact that she doesn't clean up after she cooks, and her room looks like a skip. ("But it would be different!")

Additionally, because of funding, the courses would actually be degree courses (if she could get onto them) and she would be studying with other students of whom many would be two years or more older.

Thoughts please?

My son has just gone to london at 16. He stays in a halls of residence type of place for 16 to 25 year olds . Most meals are included but he has to share the tiny room with another boy.
I had a lot of doubts but he is coping really well. My main advice would be make sure she has a bank account sorted before she goes because we are having problems getting one set up now.
Is your daughter doing dance?

Yes - I suppose it's the funding that gives that away! London is one of the places she's looking at. She has a bank account.

I'm not sure she'd like the sharing the room thing. I'm not sure anyone would like sharing with her!

Is it dance for your son?

It is.
There are single rooms but they are more expensive!
The place he is staying is probably closing next year so that was another worry but now he knows other people at least they can find somewhere together.
i think other dance schools have their own accommodation or have host families.
I wasnt sure he would like sharing either and i know its not his ideal but it is ok.

If she's looking at degree courses, and she doesn't already have Level 3 qualifications (A Levels, BTEC National Diploma etc) then they won't take her, so the point becomes rather moot anyway.
