Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on fostering.

Writing the "letter" part of life story work for foster/adopted kids - how on earth do you find the words?

Hi everyone,

Posting here because I know there's a lot of experienced foster carers and adopters on Mumsnet, and I could really use some collective wisdom on the expectations and difficulties with writing weekly or monthly letters to the child/young person.

How do you write your letters? (Email, Word, App?)
Are you expected to write them? (What emphasis does your agency put on it?)
Do you find it easy to write letters?

If you’ve wrestled with writing these or felt completely unsupported by the process, I’d really appreciate hearing how you handled it.

Thanks so much!

Adopter here. Never heard of these, is it a relatively new thing?

What letters are you writing?

Later life letters are written by the SW

Life story letters are written by the SW

Letters to the child's family for letter box contact are written by the adopter/foster carer (to adopted sibs) but are usually twice a year.

You mean you are asked to write to the child in your care ? That is in your home ? Or as part of an introduction letter that the agency asks if you . You can certainly ask them what to include or give you some ideas , that's what they are there for .

Surprised by this as the social worker usually does it
