Supported lodgings carers thinking about fostering

My partner and I do supported lodgings (16+). Social services were looking for a foster placement for the young person currently with us but couldn't find one. Because of various complexities including them being an unaccompanied minor, what we are doing is much more akin to fostering than supported lodgings. The YP is also going to need much more time than your average supported lodgings placement to become independent. We want to explore getting approved as foster carers so that we could offer support for longer. Has anyone had experience of moving from supported lodgings to fostering who could share their experience?

@Plrj

I've not done this, though I am an adopter and now foster carer.
To be honest, it sounds like you are already doing the job of a foster carer.
If you feel a commitment to this young person and would like him to stay with you I'd say go for it.
I'm guessing the support and pay is more than you are getting now.

Good luck with your decision making.
