Friend may end up fostering her grandchild

My friend’s daughter has drug and alcohol issues and the daughter may lose custody of their child.
She does not want the child to go to a foster home but would not be able to foster the child herself unless there is some sort of financial support. Does anyone know of the support available?

Yes there is support for kinship carers - they are paid the basic rate for fostering if the child is placed with them by the local authority and whilst assessments are undertaken..my advice is for your friend to be very clear with them what she needs to provide the home tbe child needs from the offset.

There is a charity which supports kinship carers which may have some information.
