Fostering

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on fostering.

Nephews are in care - will this stop me from becoming a foster carer?

Hello,

I am a Special Needs teacher and beginning to look into fostering. However, I have 4 nephews in foster care. They were placed into care 8 years ago as their single parent (my sibling) was unable to meet their needs due to her own Special Needs. Will this affect my application?

Thank you.

Why arent you fostering them?

@woodyspecker I appreciate you asking but there was no opportunity for me to foster them. They are now settled in long term homes and we have open contact.

would you not take your nephews in surely better for them and something you would want to do for her

LouiseTrees · 15/03/2021 23:13

I wouldn’t think it would if at that time you were not a suitable place for them to go but turned it down.

@AdaJones26 just saw why you didn’t take kids in , sorry

I don't think it will be an issue and it will give you some understanding and experience that will be helpful like understanding the importance of contact with birth family. 8 years is a long time and I assume you weren't in a position to care for the children then rather than you being assessed and rejected because of particular issues.
