Hi all,

My 2 little cousins have been in foster care since November. We put ourselves forward in February as alternative carers for them and we are finally being assesed. All forms have been signed so inital CRB, heath etc checks are being carried out. Our SW will be visiting us on 19th/20th August to do face to face assessment.

We already have 4 children. 3 girls aged 8 7 and 4. And a little boy aged 16 months. My cousins are aged 4 and 19 months (both little girls).

Does anyone have experience of fostering relatives with little ones of your own? What sort of questions will we be asked?

My dh and I are both fully aware of the extra commitment that we would be taking on and are prepared for some intrusive questioning but just interested in what sort of questions.

Also we were unsure if we would be considered due to our young family. Do you think the social workers think we stand a chance of getting them, or do they have a duty to assess all family who apply? I half expected them not to assess us at all when we told them how old our children are but they are going ahead.

Thanx

Pink

Can't really say anything but had to say what a fab pair you are! DH and I have just been approved but have no one with us yet.
I'm sure someone will come by in a minute with something useful to say - I'm too inexperienced to offer any advice.
Gook luck

hi ss do have a duty to assess any family members who come forward, but that can be paper exersice only so if they are coming to see you in person it must mean they think it's a possibility.

You will have to show you can meet all the children's needs as they are close in age to your own.

Good luck.
