MrsBadger · 12/04/2010 18:09

[disclaimer] am no sweetheart

but a TA friend has just started a 6m tour and I have discovered the BFPO sends parcels under 2kg free

have sent an initial package of novels, haribo and e45 for his dry skin, but what else is appreciated by men living in tents on rations?

any ideas gratefully received

Randon foodstuff - angel delight, monster munch, etc, fly swat, shaving gel, mags, a football, and anything else utterly random you can think of to amuse him.

slipperthief · 12/04/2010 20:48

We even found a toddler bike for £3 at the tip and managed to get that out in a series of under 2kg packages over two months. Kept them very happy putting it back together. (Frame was a bit trickier but an obliging herc pilot managed to get that out for us)

I send db Cosmo, Top Gear, Mens Health, Private Eye etc. Bombay mix goes down well, old fashioned chewy sweets, novels, pork scratchings etc. Must wrap parcel to go. I send the mags etc in old Amazon book delivery shells.

Sweeties, deodorant (but not aerosols), books, music, Pringles, games eg travel scrabble.

A friend is sending a whole 2kg of ping pong balls to a mate under this scheme

not that I am suggesting you do that though, slipperthief's post just reminded me!

MrsBadger · 14/04/2010 19:08

brilliant ideas all, have swept pound / crap shops in town

next parcel contains:

dartboard
darts
assemble-it-yourself football
more E45
sweets
crisps to make it up to 2kg

am liking the idea of a selection of random foodstuffs but can you do angel delight with no fridge?

OP posts:
pookamoo · 14/04/2010 19:42

Our angel delight never makes it to the fridge, we eat it first! yum

slipperthief · 15/04/2010 10:17

2kg of ping pong balls? Genius. With bats or not?

And wet wipes go down well too if he's somewhere hot.

pookamoo · 15/04/2010 22:30

I'd say maybe the bats should go first... to keep them guessing!

update for all those who helped:

got a call on Saturday saying it is 40C and the food is shocking, but they have managed to procure an oven(?!) so can we send pizza bases and cake mixes etc, and also more novels, especially Flashman

Bizarre but not really surprising I suppose...

scaryteacher · 26/04/2010 21:43

I'll tell db the food is shocking - that's his job out there!

MrsBadger · 27/04/2010 12:14

they are at a FOB with limited facilities and I think the sausages in lard have started to get to him...

this is his first tour - at home he is a food ponce so may not have had realistic expectations!
