The BFPO is being cut at all NATO HQs bar Naples. This is to come into effect by Sept 10. Apart from being a major embuggerance, this also potentially affects the following.

Amongst other things this disenfranchises us if we are postal voters; some credit card providers will not send you cards abroad (M&S for example); it may affect the ability to let your house whilst posted abroad, or away from your home; it may take away tax advantages such as being able to have an ISA whilst posted abroad. It will affect Open University students who have a BFPO address as they will be charged higher fees; it will potentially effect our children when they go to Uni, as they may not be eligible for student loans/fees to be paid, and will be charged higher fees as they live abroad. We will also be charged different rates for subscriptions etc as they will now have to come via local mail, and not the UK mail.

This is the thin end of the wedge, as next it may be cut to all the bases in Europe and this will affect some of you in Germany, as well as those of us who use the NATO HQ BFPOs.

Thanks

Done - what a nightmare Cyprus would have been for me without BFPO!!

chegirl · 01/09/2009 18:11

Done.

I wrote everyday to OH when he was in Gulf War 1. He only got about 1% but it made me feel better

hannahsaunt · 01/09/2009 18:21

Done. What a dreadful thing to suggest! No familial connection to forces but can imagine the impact on some of our students.

Saltire · 01/09/2009 18:33

More cost cutting I suppose

JackBauer · 01/09/2009 18:54

Done.

geekgirl78 · 01/09/2009 21:18

Anste · 01/09/2009 21:42

Done, current bfpo user and may at some point have to move overseas with dh, so would hate to see this facility disappear.

nickelbabe · 02/09/2009 10:13

done.
what a short-sighted bloody stupid cost-cutting decision.

i know, let's say thanks to all the hard work that our armed forces are doing overseas and cut off all contact with their families and homes in the UK.
twats.

rippatiggerboo · 02/09/2009 12:50

Saltire, if you search groups for BFPO cuts theres a group. Join and then share, its puts a link on your profile. I have also emailed (through FB) all my friends. (it took 10 mails as you can only mail 20 at a time lol)

Saltire · 02/09/2009 14:29

Thanks, will have a look later

flossie64 · 02/09/2009 16:18

I put a link on by just copying and pasting the web address ,it automatically comes up as a link then you can add a comment.

MotherOfGirls · 02/09/2009 16:30
