Are you being over-charged for your garage? This is worth checking out!

Did you know that if your garage is smaller than standard you should be paying a reduced charge?

We have just found out that we have been overcharged for our garage for the last year and a half thanks to a neighbour who is clued-up when it comes to JSP 464. See below:

  1. Garages / car-ports. Garages and car-ports allocated to Service personnel (whether or not used for storing vehicles) are to be charged at the appropriate standard or sub-standard Garage or Car-Port charge for each car space. A garage or car-port which measures less than 5.3 x 3.0 m clear internally10, or a garage which is determined by a Board of Officers to be of such insubstantial construction as not to provide adequate security qualifies for a sub-standard charge. Private vehicles are stored at the sole risk of their owners.

Standard garage charge £0.80 per day
Sub-standard garage charge £0.54 per day
Standard Car port £0.40 per day
Sub-standard car port £0.27 per day

Check your DH's pay statement and measure your garage/car port to make sure you're not being overcharged. And if you are complain to the Area Housing Manager asap!!

Will be measuring my garage tommorrow as there is no way I can park a car in it and we are paying 80p a day!

Good luck, Insanity. We had the Housing Officer come to measure on Thursday with his laser thingy and it's definitely sub-standard size so I have started the ball rolling at least.

Not sure what will happen for us as the whole estate is affected, apparently. I'm spreading the word around so people know they are getting ripped off.

We have our fingers crossed for it to be back-dated but won't be holding or breath as we are still embroiled in a grading challenge over our quarter which has been going on for a year and a half!! So we're getting overcharged for our quarter and our garage.

DE. Don't you just love 'em?

My garage is exactly the measurements you put down for a standard garage, damn my space awareness has never been very good!

Although I have passed this information on as some garages are smaller than mine so maybe someone will come up trumps!

Good luck with your downgrading!
