Totally naive I know and this will prob come across as dim but here goes,
My brother told my mother on Tuesday night that he was going to Fermanagh (i think) to the Army, we think just for a physical as he's back today. This is his second yime up there so we assume he means business, but he won't tell us anything.
My mother is distraught, she can't get it out of her head that he'll be in Afghanistan by Christmas 09 and killed soon after. We don't have any family in the armed forces but my father and brother are very involved in the RDF (Irish reserve defence forces, we live in Southern Ireland).
He told my father yesterday that they told him he'd be shipped to either Canada, Argentina or Jamaica, but is this sugar coating it?
Can anyone shed any light on this, anyone know anything about Irish Guards, where they go, what they do etc? I just want to know as much as possible, I suppose to understand his choice as much as anything and to calm my mother a bit too.
