I don't suppose I could get away with taking my flip flops to the summer ball tonight?

Could I?
I have a really bad flare up, so bad that I can hardly walk, and my feet are swollen and numb as well. Its the ball tonight and TBH I don't think I will get my shoes on!

Are you wearing a long dress?

Fashion statement. Think maxi dresses and barefoot glamour in St Tropez

saltire · 05/07/2008 10:54

Not floor length, no its about mid calf.

Aha then thats not too bad. OK can you get to a Monsoon or Laura Ashley or similar within the day?

Can't walk up the stairs without help ATM so not much chance of getting somewhere posh to buy flip flops!

Yes, I always wore nice flip flops to summer balls.

My SIL wore cowboy boots under her (addimitedly, long) ball dress at the Waddington Officers Mess ball 3 weeks ago

saltire · 05/07/2008 11:06

I don't know if I would class them as "nice" flip flops! They happen to be the only thing I can get on. I'm going to look great, with those and my wrist supports as well!

If you can't walk far then there's your excuse. Just wear them and tell them why if you get any strange looks.

Anyway as the evening progresses most will be half cut to care either way.

The beauty of wearing long dresses is one can get away with heels, flats or bare feet and no bugger notices.

I would quite happily stay at home and not go, the thought of having to nice and chatty and having to sit properly i.e not with my feet up which is the only thing that helps, is not something I'm looking forward to

I always take my Birkies to nights out at the mess, hide them in the toilets or somewhere outside for the walk home!
