Just wondering if anyone has any experience of them? Im ex-navy and DP is a PO, do they work on a point/need system? I take it, it also works on a scale of niceness, JR to Officers.

Were private renting on the IOW, but hes due back to Sea down the Gulf in a few weeks, when he gets back we want to look at MQs. What are they like? TIA

Think the only ones on Portsea island are in Hilsea. There are more available in Lee on Solent.
MQs are ok, if your DH is on a Portsmouth based ship, you are eligible, but it depends on availability as to how long you may have to wait.
You get more for your money in a MQ compared to renting privately, you dont have to pay water bills and your council tax is paid directly from DH pay.

You may get a flat, you may get a house. Have a chat with the DHE Estates Officer for Portsmouth and he will fill you in.

Thanks, hes shoreside in Pompey atm, then on a Scotland based ship on loan, then back to a Pompey based ship next April. Do you have to wait till they are back in home port before getting the ball rolling?

Well they will tell you that there are absolutely none availiable anywhere except Paulsgrove.
This is a lie

Thanks Saltire, Oh God, why do i get the feeling this is this going to be a massive hassle?!

Find out exactly which patches (and streets on the patches) you are eligible for and then go and have a nosey... you will soon spot the empty ones.
Then go to the Estate Officer and tell him which house you want. The chances are the empty houses will already have been allocated, but at least the estate officer will know you mean business!

Ah good idea.
