Well so much for the back dated home to duty!

DH found out recently he was entitled to claim backdated home to duty for the 7 miles each way he travels to work.
It is apparently 31p per mile, but you give up the first mile of each journey. So, he should be getting it for 12 miles a day.
He was paid £583 (can't quite figure out how they reached this sum)into his wages, however, because they had been paying him aobut £157 a month too much in GYH allowance, they took £600+ back, so he is actually £150 down when it all adds up.

Oh no! Did they take it all in one month?

saltire · 27/05/2008 08:03

They took the whole amount in one month, because they say that they can do that becasue he was given £583 extra backdated home to duty, so therefore it equal itself out!

I am furious that they can do that, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how if he is due backdated home to duty, back dated until 1st June 2007,and he travles 12miles a day,a dn it's 31p per mile. Am really furious

Might have a look on the RAF families website and see what they say

The lowest sum i get is £744. So where on earth do they get £583 from?

Can you go into the pay office Saltire, (or DH) and find out where they get there figures from.

Wrennie · 27/05/2008 09:41

he needs to go and get them to spell it out. I don't understand the RAF pay sheets, especially when they start messing them around. And they aren't reliable for getting things right so I wouldn't trust them either.

saltire · 27/05/2008 09:41

I will ask him. DH is one of those men who thinks "oh that must be right cos they said so"
I'm also annoyed, or furious would be a better word that they then took it all backa gain to recover the moeny that they mistakenly paid him, despite it being queried several times. I just didn't think they could do that, even if he was paid a lot more and it does even itself out

Saltire, I've been speaking to dh about this. Not sure what rank your dh is, but if he is below sergent, it's worth him asking his sargent to get it sorted.

There is also a limit on how much they can take back a day. It used to be calculated on one days pay a week they could claim back.

Is htd taxable? If so, it's probably about right, and yes, if they paid the backdated htd in the same payrun, they can take the gyh out of it.

they still owe me 1100 from last summer (darkly)
